Lithium Australia has successfully completed the final stage of the LieNA piloting program in collaboration with Mineral Resources (MinRes) and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO).
Since 2022, ANSTO scientists have worked alongside Lithium Australia to develop technology aimed at enhancing lithium extraction from mining waste. With the piloting now complete, Lithium Australia has made a fourth drawdown of $1.2 million from a convertible note issued by MinRes as part of their joint development agreement. This funding will support ongoing activities in the first quarter of the 2024–25 financial year.
“We are excited to announce the completion of the LieNA piloting program at ANSTO, with lithium phosphate now produced,” said Simon Linge, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Lithium Australia.
The next steps involve finalizing the engineering study for the LieNA demonstration facility, targeted for completion in 2024. A significant milestone in the piloting program is the production of lithium phosphate from spodumene concentrate provided by MinRes.
“The strong progress this year underscores Lithium Australia and MinRes’ commitment to commercializing the unique LieNA technology,” Linge added.
“We extend our gratitude to ANSTO for their support during the piloting program and look forward to updating stakeholders on the engineering study’s completion and the formation of a joint venture between Lithium Australia and MinRes.”
