Nio’s new battery technology, set to enter mass production in April 2024, offers an unprecedented 1,000km range and utilises a rapid battery-swapping system.
A Chinese electric car manufacturer, Nio, has unveiled a new battery capable of powering a vehicle for over 1,000 kilometers on a single charge. This next generation battery will enter mass production in April 2024, offering a longer range than any other electric or fuel-powered car currently available.
During a 14-hour live-stream, Nio CEO William Li drove the all-electric ET7 vehicle 1,044 kilometers (649 miles) from Zhejiang province to Fujian province at an average speed of 84 km/h. In a separate, unbroadcast test, the battery reportedly covered 1,145 kilometers.
Currently, this battery pack boasts the highest energy density in mass production worldwide and demonstrates excellent safety performance.
Nio employs a unique battery-swapping system, allowing drivers to replace an empty battery with a fully charged one in less than three minutes, similar to the time it takes to refuel a gasoline vehicle.
Customers have the option to purchase a vehicle without a battery and pay a monthly subscription fee to access batteries within Nio’s network, providing flexibility and convenience.
