According to Chemanalyst, China, Jiujiang Tinci Resource Recycling Technology, a subsidiary of Guangzhou Tinci Materials Technology Co., Ltd, has received approval for its waste lithium battery recycling project, a major initiative aimed at addressing the growing demand for recycled battery materials. Located in Jinshawan Park within Jiangxi Hukou High-tech Industrial Park, the project involves the construction of six advanced recycling systems. Upon completion, the facility will enable the production of 2,570 tons of secondary battery packs, 30,000 tons of high-purity lithium carbonate, 3,261 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate, 20,000 tons of battery-grade iron phosphate, and 8,000 tons of nickel-cobalt-manganese sulfate annually. Additionally, it will generate 26,041 tons of sodium sulfate as a by-product.
The project represents a significant expansion of the company’s existing capabilities, focusing on key areas such as waste lithium iron phosphate battery recycling, cascade utilization of battery packs, and pretreatment of waste pole pieces. Advanced systems will include an iron phosphate wet recovery system, a nickel cobalt manganese salt production system, and a lithium carbonate production system. These systems will process various waste materials, including waste lithium iron phosphate batteries, ternary lithium batteries, and positive electrode plates, converting them into valuable resources essential for the electric vehicle (EV) and renewable energy sectors.
Jiujiang Tianci’s expansion will significantly enhance its recycling capacity and technical expertise in the lithium battery recycling industry. The planned systems will allow the facility to recover high-value materials such as battery-grade lithium carbonate, which is crucial for manufacturing new lithium-ion batteries, as well as nickel cobalt manganese sulfate, a key component for high-performance battery cathodes. The cascade utilization of secondary battery packs will further support the circular economy by extending the lifecycle of battery components.
