According to Investing, Livium Ltd has entered into an exclusive five-year agreement with ZECO Energy to manage the recycling of lithium-ion batteries used in ZECO’s energy solutions. This strategic partnership reinforces sustainable energy storage practices and expands Livium’s role in the circular economy. Under this collaboration, Envirostream Australia Pty Ltd, Livium’s wholly owned subsidiary, will process end-of-life residential and commercial energy storage system (ESS) battery packs supplied by ZECO Energy.

Key Details of the Agreement

  • Start Date: February 19, 2025
  • Initial Term: Five years, with an optional three-year extension
  • Services Provided by Livium:
    • Battery sorting and recycling
    • Disassembly and material recovery
    • Secure transportation and processing
  • Revenue Model: Processing fees, dismantling services, and battery discharge management
  • Exclusivity Terms: No minimum volume commitments; financial impact yet to be quantified

Commitment to a Circular Economy

“By collaborating with ZECO Energy, we are reinforcing our commitment to a circular economy for energy storage. This partnership ensures that end-of-life batteries are repurposed responsibly, supporting both environmental and industry sustainability,” – Simon Linge, CEO & Managing Director, Livium

Livium aims to expand its battery recycling network, enabling greater scalability and efficiency in handling spent batteries. The company views this agreement as a stepping stone toward servicing broader markets.

“ZECO Energy is all about sustainability and responsible product cycle management. Teaming up with Livium takes that to the next level,” – Jag Makam, Director, ZECO Energy

ZECO Energy, a leading provider of sustainable energy solutions, supplies battery systems from major brands such as Tesla and Samsung SDI serving over 40,000 active customers. Through this agreement, ZECO strengthens its focus on structured and sustainable battery lifecycle management.

ZECO Energy’s Approach to Responsible Battery Management

ZECO highlights Melbourne-based Livium’s expertise and infrastructure as key advantages in ensuring a localized and efficient recycling process. Beyond energy storage system (ESS) batteries, Livium is expanding into e-mobility and electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling, diversifying its recycling footprint. This exclusive agreement with ZECO strengthens Livium’s ability to secure key contracts in the sustainable energy sector and further its role in global circular economy initiatives.

Looking Ahead

As demand for energy storage solutions rises, this partnership sets a new benchmark for responsible battery recycling. By leveraging Livium’s expertise and ZECO’s commitment to sustainability, this collaboration ensures a smoother transition toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
