Based on the source, Car News China, on January 13, SAIC-GM, will unveil the first electric vehicle equipped with a 6C LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery this year, according to its general manager Lu Xiao. Developed in collaboration with CATL, the 6C battery is capable of charging 350 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. The new vehicle will utilize GM’s advanced 900-V Ultium platform, designed to support a range of future electric models.

The 6C battery, released in September 2024, represents a significant leap in charging efficiency. This battery can charge at a power rate six times its capacity, enabling a 100-kWh battery to achieve a charging power of 600 kW. Its ability to charge 200 kilometers in five minutes, addressing the critical issue of range anxiety among EV users. The battery incorporates a cell-to-pack (CTP) design and upgraded cooling technology, which enhance electrochemical efficiency and ensure performance stability.

SAIC-GM, as the Chinese joint venture of General Motors, aims to launch 12 new models, including BEVs, PHEVs, and EREVs, between 2025 and 2027, reflecting a robust growth strategy in China. In 2024, the joint venture sold 526,531 vehicles, with Buick accounting for 68% of sales, making it the top-selling brand under SAIC-GM.
